What Makes the Cost of Shipping High?
We already know from the information on the Oat Matza page that oat matza is time consuming and expensive to produce, but why would shipping cost be high?
UPS charges us a fee. We wait three billing cycles for their UPS's "adjustments", then we go over each order individually to arrive at your particular shipment.
A majority of the cost of shipping is a "carrying" charge. Regardless of the number of boxes you purchase, UPS is carrying your package - and as you have seen, in many cases this doubles the cost of the merchandise.
Because of the carrying charge, it is more cost effective for you to order more than one box of matza at a time, as shipping will be approximately the same regardless of whether you get one box, two or three.
Your shipping costs also include all costs to Karen, The Oat Matza Lady. The breakdown for these costs includes the box, the shipping peanuts, the fragile sticker, the mailing label, the UPS service fee, the credit card fees to enable you to purchase your matza, the delivery fees for all the above mentioned parts, and administrative costs for billing and order taking to keep up with all the orders to enable you to get your matza in a timely fashion! Karen's labor costs are low because her friends assist her for Pesach and during the rest of the year.
Note: Karen is a private person who facilitates Oat Matza because her son needed it many years ago. In order to avoid second-guessing UPS, she will NOT run your credit card until she has received the UPS bill, which is AFTER you will have received your Matza! If you live in an out-lying area, the shipping cost will be higher. Very Important: If you live in a multi-unit dwelling, please be sure to put an apartment number, or a floor level, or some type of identifying information on your address. Also, if you are having your order delivered to a building that can be, in any way whatsoever considered commercial, please let us know in your order, as you are charged differently by UPS for commercial versus residential deliveries.
We hope this addresses your concerns and questions about shipping cost.
More Information on Gluten Free Matza!
- This matza is ALL Gluten Free Oat Matza.
- This matza is ALL Shmurah (meaning Guarded). This is a level of Kosher that many people keep in accordance to their Passover customs.
- In
2010: There are nine Shabbat and Yom Tov meals (including
Seudah Shlishit) this year.
- Each Seder has three places where we eat matza.
- In
2010 there are four days of Chol HaMoed, although
the third day is Shabbat and is accounted for in
the list above.
- There are approximately 10 -13 sheets of Matza per one pound box (machine-made).
- Hand Matza (round) comes 3, yes, three, pieces per box for the same price as a box of Machine Matza. It is very difficult to make.
- If
you plan to use Oat Matza to make HaMotzei during
the year, please count the number of Shabbat and
Yom Tov meals for the entire year. It is always possible
there will be some leftover, or produced later (as
happened this past year). But you never know.
- Matza Meal comes in one pound
boxes. Reminder: This may be the ONLY time of the
year you can get matza meal. It may sell out. Order
what you think you will need for the year. And it
is, as always, First come, first served.
