For decades people in developmental sciences have known that brain function can be improved through physical movements. Most people understand that the brain tells the rest of the body how to move, thus allowing us to walk, talk, sit, and more – so why can’t we help ourselves by using certain movements to help us gain more focus and achieve more? What is Brain Gym? Brain Gym was developed in the 1970’s by educational therapist Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D. In partnership with his wife Gail, they created the Brain Gym movements and enhanced the field of Educational Kinesiology (“enhanced learning through movement”). The program consists of easy physical movements that help to synchronize body and mind to optimize the functioning of the brain. In a three day Brain Gym class you can learn 4 Steps to Get Ready, 26 Specific Movement Activities, the 5 Step Balance, and Two Re-patterning Sequences. Benefits of Brain Gym Benefits to adults and children consist of learning faster and more easily, performing better at work, school or sports, becoming more focused and organized, overcoming learning challenges, improving self-esteem, and starting & finishing projects with ease. These are only a few of the many benefits. To be more specific let’s imagine that your child is having a hard time sitting still in school and teachers have labeled him as ADD or just hyperactive. Brain Gym movements allow your child to learn a pattern of movements that can focus his attention in 4 minutes’ time and therefore sit still and learn more easily. Perhaps you are trying to gain a promotion at work and are having trouble visualizing the tasks needing to be completed. Once again the Brain Gym movements can be used in conjunction with positive thoughts or goals and objectives to obtain focus, confidence and organization. Brain Gym and Kinesiology Energy Kinesiology is an overall concept that incorporates techniques such as Touch for Health, Brain Gym, Holographic Repatterning and other modalities. Brain Gym helps give information back to our bodies through biofeedback, and when used in conjunction with an Energy Kinesiologist at an appointment, the muscle monitoring can help to direct an individual to movements and actions that will help to clear energy pathways and break energy blocks. The Energy Kinesiologist acts as a facilitator, assisting you in reaching your goals – thus achieving a heightened and balanced state of awareness and health. The great thing about Brain Gym is once the movements are learned you can help yourself and others refocus, balance, and grow. Click to learn more about Brain Gym classes or check the calendar.
